Britt, Peters & Associates is looking for a highly technical and motivated engineer with a specific expertise and body of experience in concrete building design. Britt, Peters & Associates has emerged as a local concrete expert within most of our current markets, and this position will be focused on the continued advancement of our technical expertise in this specific area of design.


The Structural Concrete Design Leader is a new and unique position for us, so there is no pre-defined role or pre-existing expectations. This specific role will be tailored to the talent and experience of the selected candidate, and we expect the role to grow and change at a fast pace as the successful candidate learns and grows. The ideal candidate would have the following knowledge/experience:


• Post tensioned slab and beam design
• Pan joist floor systems
• Concrete beam/joist scheduling and detailing
• Concrete column scheduling and detailing
• Concrete shear wall design and detailing
• High seismic experience
• Performance based design experience would be great
• Soil/Structure interaction
• High-rise experience preferred


The Role:
Research and Development
• Be intimately familiar with the main ACI documents and IBC codes
• Follow relevant research and industry changes
• Evaluate new design software and implement as determined to be beneficial
• Write excel or other programs for specific designs
• Attend and present at industry conferences
• Develop workflows and tools for concrete design
• Explore new framing concepts and materials to advance our designs and efficiencies
• Work with and contribute to our Embodied Carbon initiative.


Internal Concrete Resource
• Provide training to staff on new topics and available tools
• Provide project-specific support on initial concepts, costing, and unique situations
• Provide QC at various stages of all of BPA's concrete projects
• Explore topics related to concrete construction to improve our efficiencies of materials and avoid construction issues


External Concrete Expert
• Build and maintain relationships with key industry connections
• Pursue architectural clients in the Southeast
• Pursue contractor clients
• Provide speaking opportunities on Concrete related topics


Project Management
• Create schematic concepts to convey and vet innovative structural solutions
• Active involvement with client meetings
• Provide creative solutions to architectural and construction issues and constraints
• Perform initial conceptual then final detailed structural design and documentation
• Perform calculations including static/dynamic finite element modeling
• Manage the work of junior engineers and designers
• Develop and maintain project schedules in conjunction with the project teams to meet milestones and completion dates

• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Strong decision making/problem-solving skills
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; Masters preferred
• 3+ years of industry experience
