Upward’s new headquarters facility, inaugurated in 2006, was built in response to the rapidly growing organization’s need for a centralized campus with ample space and amenities to effectively serve its ever-increasing customer base.
Britt, Peters and Associates provided structural engineering services for the multifacility project, which included a 30,000-square-foot office building and a 60,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution center. Structural design for the steel-framed office building presented some challenges for the Britt Peters team in that exposed structural steel elements within the structure required special detailing and coordination.
In addition to housing administrative functions, the office facility serves as a venue for hosting meetings and training sessions. The adjacent 60,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution center supports the ministry with inventory storage and shipment of orders for Upward-branded clothing items and equipment.
Upward is an evangelistic sports ministry that serves churches of all denominations through organized programs in a variety of activities, including basketball, cheerleading, soccer and flag football. The organization’s mission is “to introduce children to Jesus Christ by creating opportunities to serve through sports.” Specifically designed for elementary school aged boys and girls, Upward programs promote happiness, character, and self-esteem in every child and are intended to make every child feel like a winner.
