Churches Ingleside Baptist Church

Located in the heart of Georgia, Macon’s Ingleside Baptist Church has experienced unprecedented growth over the past 20 years in tandem with economic expansion along the state’s I-75 corridor. In 1994, Ingleside added a three-story Preschool and Children’s Building, and a Family Life Center; then in 1997, the church completely repaired and renovated its Worship Center, a milestone project in which Britt Peters participated.

In the early 2000s, Ingleside once again initiated a major facility expansion program to accommodate its near-term and future space requirements – this time a $14.5-million sanctuary and education wing dedicated in 2004. Britt, Peters and Associates provided structural design services for the 150,000-square-foot structural steel facility. The sanctuary has a seating capacity for 1,700 attendees – something the church’s original 16 members never imagined when they began meeting in a private home more than 50 years ago. The new building’s interior and exterior gathering areas encourage interaction among members and visitors. The impressive – and inviting – vestibule is sized to allow large congregations to enter and exit the worship center. This space includes a bookstore, coffee bar and access to church offices. Brick veneer facing adds to the architectural appeal of the exterior.

For Britt Peters, the challenge was working within a tight time frame to meet the church’s deadline for an Easter Sunday opening. The Britt Peters team successfully met the church’s schedule in accordance with the project’s budget.

Designing worship centers and related facilities is a specialty of Britt Peters. Other notable Britt Peters-designed facilities in the region include New Springs Community Church in Anderson, South Carolina, and Clemson Presbyterian Church in Clemson.
